Czech Unicode Layout for the Text Console and X Window System

No one has implemented this keyboard for Linux yet.

This keyboard is based on the "classic" IBM/Microsoft standard. At the time, both companies had simplified their task in creating the keyboard layouts for European countries behind the Iron Curtain and, apart from the basic typewriter letters of a given country, they left all the diacritics and characters of the remaining countries on the keybord. The characters from the American keyboard had been assigned to any unoccupied keys left.

For backward compatibility, the american characters are still at unusual keys (backslash remains at AltGr-Q, e.g.). It's got the QWERTZ layout and one can take advantage of all—originally non-functional—diacritics (but ~) to compose characters from code pages other then the Central European ones. That's the reason why this keyboard is a Unicode one and why a Unicode font is needed for the correct display of all generated characters.

This keyboard layout is ideal for all people who need to write primarily in Czech with the possibility to compose all the other Latin characters without installing and switching many different layouts and fonts.
