Compiling Source Code

Hello All,

I am a newbee to Debian.  I have been working with Linux about 3 years and I
think I'm going to finally switch to Debian.  I have a question?  I find
when I try to compile the latest and greatest software and patches, it's
difficult to complie on Debian.  Why is this?  But I'm going to stick with
Debian, because I think I'll learn alot more that with the other dists that
does everything for you automatically.
