Sorry but I don't uderstand what do you mean with *you*.
I as ordinary user or I as root or I "personally"?
For me personally is it not problem but when somebody new at linux
has firefox installed and after them ordinally runs aptitude upgrade
and this error message occurs he will be confused.
I mean it is some bug in the installation process but I can't
localize it precisely. Do you able see it step by step
and say what point is wrong?
Scenario:
Before (etch, more months ago):
1) mozilla firefox was installed on the system
2) the initialization script installs the file
/usr/share/doc/mozilla-browser/localstart.html
ant SETS it as DEFAULT HOMEPAGE AUTOMATICALLY
3) then (maybe) mozilla iceweasel was installed on the system
4) both belong to the mozilla-browser, so it's
default homepage points to the file
/usr/share/doc/mozilla-browser/localstart.html
too, so the iceweasel becomes it's default homepage
from mozilla-browser
Now (a week ago):
5) the upgrading process (when running "aptitude upgrade" regulary)
will install iceape automatically
5a) I don't know if the mozilla-firefox is by them uninstalled
automatically too, but:
6) the original file
/usr/share/doc/mozilla-browser/localstart.html
is automatically deleted (by icepe, you said)
5) ANOTHER BUG somewhere in debian-menus system causes that:
5a) NO iceape item is automatically added to the Debian-menu
5b) the old item "firefox" persists there but it loses it's icon
5c) when the ordinary user clicks on this "firefox" item
then the iceweasel will run
-> The ordinary user is confused
6) At NOW (the bug I reported) this iceweasel browser shows
this error message and the user will be confused totally
7) manually running update-menus will correct the problem with the
debian-menu but not the bug I reported:
5a) the iceape item is added to the Debian-menu
5b) the old item "firefox" persists there but it's icon is on his place
5c) when the ordinary user click's on this "firefox" item
then the iceweasel will run and the problem with localstart.html
naturally persist
My system shows that:
$ which iceweasel
/usr/bin/iceweasel
$ file /usr/bin/iceweasel
/usr/bin/iceweasel: symbolic link to `../lib/iceweasel/iceweasel'
$ file /usr/lib/iceweasel/iceweasel
/usr/lib/iceweasel/iceweasel: Bourne shell script text executable
$ which mozilla-firefox
/usr/bin/mozilla-firefox
$ file /usr/bin/mozilla-firefox
/usr/bin/mozilla-firefox: symbolic link to `../lib/iceweasel/iceweasel'
Say please, where I am wrong?
